Airflow Tooth Polishing

Airflow Tooth Polishing is an effective cleaning method which can improve the health and look of your teeth and gums.

What is Airflow Tooth Polishing?

This procedure uses air and fine powder in powerful, controlled bursts to clean and brighten teeth. In doing so, it polishes the surface of teeth, helping to alleviate discolouration, eliminate plaque and remove other soft deposits.

Airflow can reach deep between teeth, which can help to stave off gum disease and improve the health of other structures that support your teeth. Your dentist or hygienist may perform the procedure and recommend you include it in your regular visits as part of your preventative dental treatment plan.

Why would I need Airflow?

You may benefit from Airflow Tooth Polishing if your teeth are susceptible to plaque build-ups or staining from specific food, drinks, or tobacco.

It is ideal for cleaning teeth before getting sealants or orthodontic treatment because it makes it easier for bonds and sealants to adhere to the tooth’s surface.

What are the benefits of Airflow?

  • Reduced staining.
  • Can get into hard to reach areas.
  • Improved patient comfort.

*Please be advised that not all patients will need airflow polishing. As it can be quite an abrasive proceedure for your teeth, we would not recommend having it frequently, or if it’s not completely necessary. Due to it’s abrasive nature, it can make your teeth very sensitive. It will also not change the shade of your teeth. If you have discoloured or yellowing teeth, there are other treatments available that are better suited to altering tooth shade.

Your dentist will be able to advise whether this type of tooth polishing is the right treatment for you at your next check up.
